Alves had a fantastic 6 years career with Sevilla winning 2 UEFA cups and the Copa del Ray. He joined Barcelona for 32.5m making him one of the most expensive defenders in history! During his first year with Barcelona he won the treble and the next year went on to win the European Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup and the Club world cup with the most recongiseable cup being the Champions League he went on to win a bit later on.
Like many Brazillian born players Alves would play in the streets with friends in what is an incredibly and deeply passionate footballing nation. He formed his own club at the age of just 10 where he decided to be a right back which he still is to this day! During his youth he also worked as a farm hand.
Alves was part of a disgusting show of racism during a match at the Villareal stadium when a ‘supporter’ of the opposition through a banana skin at him. The perpetrator, David Campaya Lleo was arrested and villareal were fined £10,000. This display of racism caused a viral sensation as footballers all around the world came out in support of Alves and took pictures of themselves eating bananas.
